Is formula a necessity??

Good afternoon ladies , I just have one quick question I’ve been debating on this for a while so here it goes:
I plan to breastfeed my babies for as long as possible hopefully till a year, then give regular milk i really don’t want to use formula unless I have to have to ... so my question here is if it would be such a bad thing to not give formula at all if my milk does last me.... or is formula a necessity.

No? If you’re breastfeeding then why would formula be a necessity? Unless your supply isn’t high enough to meet your babies needs then there’s no reason that you’d have to use formula.

If you are able to sustain babe 100% with BM that’s the way to go!! But it’s not a bad idea to have a can on hand early on jusssst in case cuz BF or pumping isn’t easy for everyone.

If you can breastfeed successfully and baby meets all growth goals, you won’t need formula. I kept some samples from the hospital in my cupboard just in case, but didn’t touch them until my son was 8-10 weeks. I finally decided breastfeeding wasn’t working for us when he stopped hitting his growth targets. But many people breastfeed exclusively without ever needing formula. Good luck!

Nope! My toddler nursed until 2 and never had a drop of formula and I’m almost four months into breastfeeding my second baby and she hasn’t had a drop of formula either.

I got some samples so I felt better but never ended up using them. Was able to ebf my daughter and donated the samples.

I had the same plan as you, didn't want my baby to ever have formula! Breastmilk all the way! Unfortunately my plan went out the window when my daughter was 3 days old. It was our first night at home and my daughter would not stop screaming. She was freshly changed, breastfed, everything! I called my midwife in tears because I had no idea what to do. She asked if I had any formula at home to supplement with just this one time as a top up, and I wouldn't have had any if it weren't for the Enfamil samples I had received. Thank God for those because after she finished drinking it she calmed down and was fine. Poor girl was not getting enough from me and was still hungry 😔
You don't need to go out and buy some, but I'd definitely suggest at least having some free samples ready to go just in case! You can get some by signing up on their website (Similac too, and probably other brands) Best of luck!
