Time to potty train???

Question

My son (17months) is pulling off his pants and ripping his diaper off. I’m being told that it is a sign of being ready to potty train. Pfffft yeah ok. I am giving it a shot. I bought a little potty but he’s not even tall enough to sit on it himself. I guess it’s not a bad idea to start getting him use to the idea. We shall see!

My daughter LOVES her potty! She’s been using it a couple times a day for both pee and poop for about a month now. She gets so excited to ‘flush’. I try to sit her on the potty every hour or so, unless she’s gone in her diaper. We’ve been using the slip on diapers during the day so she can get them up or down herself with little help.  We still have quite a ways to go before being diaper free but I’m glad she’s started the journey!

My son takes his diaper off too and he squats when he poops so I put his little potty chair next to mine in the bathroom. I haven't tried to force him to use it but he comes in and sits on it when I go to the bathroom. I don't want to try to force him to use it but I know if he does it on his own and I get really excited and tell him great job he will want to do it again. Yesterday and today he sat on it with his diaper on and pooped. Progress I guess but I definitely don't want to try to rush the process!

My 17 month old son lets us know when he wants to be changed, but I can’t manage potty training right now bc I’m having his sister today. Once I feel a little more settled in the upcoming weeks, we’ll start talking about the potty and maybe see if he wants to use it before bathtime. I think it’ll be a long process because I don’t even know that he’s physically capable of holding his pee yet. I’m not in any rush at all.

I started introducing the idea to both my kids after their first birthday its never too soon to get them used to the idea! My daughter was almost exclusively using the potty for pee at 16 months but not for poo so we backed off a bit until and I'm waiting for my son to start preschool and we are gonna make another good push since she'll be 18 months and i think we will have more sucess this time she loves her potty and is starting to resent her diapers

Time to potty train???
