Expectant moms with anxiety?

Sa

Samantha

I’m 31 weeks- first time expectant mom and I just recently started having SERIOUS bouts of anxiety. I’m crying every day, feeling lightheaded with a chest full of cement.

Is this a pregnancy thing?

Have any other expectant moms experienced this?

Should I call my doctor?

Help!

Yes! Go to the doctor! I'm on 10 mg of Lexapro, and its being uncreased to 20mg by a reproductive specialist.

Usually I’m the one to hold stufff in and nothing usually bothers me but once I got pregnant I became a total crybaby even my boyfriend is shocked with it. I feel like that all the time and then I cry more because I’m sad that I’m crying and don’t know why and then I get really upset because it won’t stop but usually after I get it all out I’m good for a couple hours and laugh about it. Until it starts again.

I have had anxiety off and on as well and some of it has been the worst I've ever had. Fortunately, i have a therapist, but of course she's been on maternity leave. I finally have an appt today. I highly suggest finding a counselor if you can, check out psychology today.com to help you find one. I did mention my anxiety to a nurse during my NST and she offered to connect me with a social worker. But yes, reach out for help and good luck, mama. 💓

The symptoms you are describing are definitely significant enough to be mentioned to your OB and/or therapist! You shouldn’t have to suffer. Pregnancy hormones can indeed trigger prenatal and postpartum anxiety, as a separate condition from depression. If it’s interfering with your ability to enjoy life and interact with your usual daily activities, it’s time to seek some relief from a provider. Good luck, and hope you feel better soon!
