Is zoloft a mood enhancer?

My husband will support me in counseling but if I want to take something more for my depression like zoloft he wont support me because it's a mood enhancer and it will cover up what's going on inside.

Zoloft is an SSRI, which means selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor....as are most first line medications for depression. All that it does is prohibits from the serotonin from being taken back, which makes the more serotonin more available to you. Serotonin helps you regulate your mood...medication clearly will not mask issues in your life.

I’ve been taking Zoloft for 5 years in conjunction with counseling. Zoloft will not ‘just cover up’ the moods. It’s not like you won’t feel anything. It made my moods so much better and more consistent. I still have my moods, but not near as bad as I did. My ex husband did not support my counseling or Zoloft (he always called it my ‘head doctor’ even though I told him many times I hated the way that sounded). In short it won’t enhance your moods in the way that you’ll be happy all the time, it just may make things feel more manageable.

Meds like that effect different people in different ways. We can't predict (and neither can your husband, or your doctor) how a specific med will effect you.

I had ppd/anxiety that turned into OCD. Zoloft helped me get back on track. I feel like myself again. I’m a better wife and mother because of it
