how inducing works?

how do they induce you? what do they do? & did the contractions hurt more ?!

I was just given pitocin via IV at 38 weeks. I was lucky enough to be dilating on my own already. IT HURT. Way more than the contractions I was having and I was having regular contractions but it wasn't progressing as fast as my doctor wanted? Idk. 😅For reference my regular contractions felt like mild period cramps but they were regular and consistent and were considered active labor. 🤷‍♀️ the contractions with pitocin felt like.. like someone was trying to tear out my spine 😅 sorry ik that's probably scary but that's because my epidural didn't work that well 😭 it was placed incorrectly with a student anaesthetist.

inserted cervidil which i believe helps thin the cervix & is usually placed for 12 hours. then pitocin. i’ve heard induction contractions are worse, but i’ve only had one so nothing to compare to. they were pretty much back to back from the start though. i still managed to go all natural though, so you can do it! don’t stress

For me they put a gel inside your vagina that helps with contractions. I had to go back a second day so they did a double dose. That had done a little bit but not enough to actually start labour. Third day they did the single dose again which did nothing. Fourth day they put a medicated line of tape up inside that would be a constant and steady dose. It worked. Took a full day but my water broke that night and they hooked me up to IVs of the medications they use to continue labour.

It really depends how far along are you? Are you dilated any? I was dilated 3 and was 40 weeks. They started me on medication at 8am ( honestly I have pregnancy brain and can’t remember what the medicine is called right now) they start with a very small dose to make you contract. Idk if it’s every dr or if it’s different for everyone but they ampt up my dose every 20 minutes they started at one and at like 7/8 I got mild cramps at 13 it started to get uncomfortable and then at 20( I think the highest the dose can go I’m not sure) It was EXTREMELY painful and asked for the epidural but unfortunately it didn’t work. I had a 8 pound 10 ounce boy felt everything but was only in labor for around 5-6 hours. Everyone is different though I’m sorry if I didn’t explain well but hope this helps a little good luck momma 💕😊
