Not baby related

So my dog, who is 7, ate a corn cob.

In a move that is so unlike her, she jumped on the table during dinner, stole the cob and swallowed it before it could be taken from her mouth. We have no idea why she did such a thing. We have had her for 5 years and she's never acted that way.

She spent hours in the vet. It cost $1000 just to be seen and for an xray.

They sent her home to try and pass it, but she cried all night.

I think she will need more xrays today which is another $1000. If she needs surgery, I will have to put her down as I cannot afford to pay the bill.

I'm hoping she is just crying from a bad reaction to the anesthesia so I'm waiting it out a bit for the vet to call me back.

I'm on an unpaid leave with pregnancy complications and have been for a month and the money I spent last night was from a loan to keep us afloat until I have this baby and can go back to work.

My son (who is a teenager) cried all night that he killed his dog because she took his corn cob. I tried to explain to him that it was a freak situation. Plus that it is my responsibility to have enough money to pay for a pet if I'm going to have one. If she dies because we can't pay, then it is my fault.

I'm just so sad and depressed.

I had cancelled her pet insurance due to financial issues...
