Feels like period cramps

I’m 38 weeks today and I keep getting what feels like period cramps in my pelvic area! Could this be contractions? (Sorry first pregnancy 🤷🏻‍♀️) my sister told me that contractions are across the whole of your stomach but these are only further down and normally to one side!
