Does anyone else plan on NOT using a dummy (pacifier)? If so, why not?

I’m not sure I want to use them. If you chose not to, why not?

We never used one with our first. My theory is babies cry because they have needs. They’re hungry, need a diaper, need to be soothed, etc. The idea of having an infant self soothe is ridiculous. As adults do we not seek comfort when we are upset or scared?

We're 6.5 weeks in and still going strong without. Haven't offered one and don't plan on it because it's not a habit we later want to break. And many people often use them as a panacea and don't try to figure out what's actually wrong with the baby. It shouldn't be used as a mute button! (Though there are definitely times I wish we had one...)

My son is 18 months and has never had a dummy. I didn’t want to give one to him if it could be avoided as I didn’t want to have to wean him off it or have issues with his teeth if he had it too long.

I planned on not using them bc:
- addictive
- ear infections
- speech delays
- yeast infections
- another thing to clean
- I don’t like a piece of plastic replacement for MOTHERING 
However my baby was in the NICU and the used them with sugar water to help with the pain of procedures; we ditched them soon after.

I wasn't going to, but we ended up using one occasionally when he's having a tough time getting to sleep and for longer trips in the car. It is given only after other things haven't worked and removed as soon as he is asleep.

Good for all the moms out there who managed to get away without using pacis. 😬 I am not that strong. Lol.
My bub is almost six months and we’ve been using pacis since like day two. He fights his sleep HARD. He can have every single one of his needs met, be exhausted, in bed, in the dark, and if I try to soothe him it just keeps him stimulated and he won’t sleep. If I were to just leave him there, he’d freak out. A paci is the only surefire way to make sure he sleeps.
I offer it to him during the day for naps or when he doesn’t seem content, and he lets me know if he doesn’t want it. Even if I were to try and hold it in his mouth he’d spit it to the side if he wasn’t interested. He also has figured out at this point that the paci clip is a toy in itself to be chewed and slobbered on, and usually if he’s not tired he’ll just munch on the sides of the paci or thwack it around. It’s a toy just as much as it is a soothing device.
Personally, I wouldn’t resist the paci TOO hard if your baby finds comfort in it. Sucking on things is as good as ambien to a grumpy baby. Whatever you choose, best of luck 😊

I give my daughter one only if she doesn't want to be fed or need a diaper change. When she doesn't want to sleep like fighting her sleep I try to soothe her sometime it doesn't work but when she gets it it stops but she doesn't take it all the time which is good.

I gave in after a week. My LO loves to suck. He wanted to use me as a pacifier 24/7 so for my sanity I gave him one and he loves it. I'm worried for when I have to wean him from it but I was the same way as a baby. 🤷‍♀️

Some countries don’t recommend pacifiers because dental problems. Here, pediatricians say it may prevent SIDS so after balancing we decided to offer the pacifier to our baby at night mostly because of that. (I was so scary of SIDS). Well...my baby never wanted it. Soo 🤷‍♀️

My girl took one for a little bit but honestly they either take to it or they don’t 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t think it’s a big deal of people give them to their babies...
