Negative hcg but pregnant

Has anyone ever heard of being pregnant but hcg not showing up in test. I’ve read a lot of stories about it. Women who knew for a fact they were pregnant but got negative results on hpt and blood test. They eventually got ultrasounds and confirmed pregnancy
