Losing weight for ivf?

I read that in the UK your BMI has to be under 30 for ivf.I will have to lose 16 pounds in 3 weeks is that possible?Anyone had to lose weight for ivf?

Is it just your first appointment in 3 weeks? Or are you meant to begin in 3 weeks? Crash dieting will not be good for quality of your eggs, so I’d recommend losing it more slowly in a healthy way over a bit of a longer period.

Yes it’s my first appointment in 3 weeks.so that’s good that I have more time to lose weight.My BMI is 32.89 and I have started eating more healthy food and cut down on carbs a bit.Im 40 in October so I’m very nervous about all this.We have a son who will be 3 in October and been trying to conceive for 2 years.Im on my high ovulation surge with clear blue digital advanced.I would love for us to conceive this month before we have ivf.I have thought about slimming world but I’m not a big cook.i actually lost weight when I was pregnant with my son as I had gestational diabetes and was put on a low sugar diet.Im going to try to do that diet.

Make sure you're drinking enough water to start! Cut out the junk food from your diet. Eat vegetables and healthy fruits. Eat more proteins than carbs. You can lose this!

You could try slimming world people rave about the weight loss from there. 
A friend of ours was told she wouldn’t get put on the ivf wait list until she lost weight. So they are really strict with it. 
Are you already on the list and about to start? Or is your first appointment in 3 weeks? If your first app is in 3 weeks then it’s not a biggie as they will be putting you forward for more tests etc so you can start losing weight as you won’t get out on the list until all your results are in, so it’ll give you time to lose the weight healthily instead of a crash diet.

I’m in the uk too. I have my first fertility appointment on 20th August. I think the they will do tube checks and iUi before ivf so gives us time to loose the weight if needed x. X good luck for your journey x x

Hi,
I had my first fertility appointment at the end of May and my BMI was 30.6. The nurse explained that before any fertility treatment I would have to make sure my BMI was under 30 but she wasn't concerned and explained that I would have enough time because of the waiting list. It may take another 6 months before I actually meet with the consultant where he will decided what route to go down. If it's IVF then it could be another year after that of waiting. 
Also while we were there they went over the other criteria for eligibility. One of the criteria was that we didn't have children already. I notice you have a 3 year old - I just want to prepare you before you go but they might say you are not eligible for IVF based on that. There are of course other things they offer. I went in with the same mentality thinking it was an IVF appointment but it really wasn't. IVF is a last option (if eligible) but there are tests they can run and medication they can prescribe to help before you get to that.
