How do you teach a child to clear their throat properly?

He is 11 and when he needs to clear his throat, he makes this nasty, awful sound. It's like a combination of a cough and puking sound. I HATE it!
I can not for the life of me figure out how to explain to him how to properly clear his throat.

you clear your throat then tell him to try it, just as you did.
hell most likely mimic you to the best of his ability.
tell him clearing his throat work better and is more effective when he does it like you do. dont tell him he sounds awful though 🤣

My son is 2 years old and he learned how to clear his throat when we ask him to by the age of 1. We did it by showing him how to then asking him to do it.
