Did your newborn sleep with fan in the room? How did u know if they were cold?

Question

I normally sleep with a fan and newborn (less than a week) going to be in the Room with me in own bassinet. I heard fans and air is good for reducing sids which is great but I don’t want my little one to get sick. 
I don’t have the fan on him at all but sometimes he cries out for no reason while sleep and I’m wondering if he is cold or getting sick.

Have fan pointing away from your baby.
You should actually never feel a babies hands or feet to judge their body temperature as this isnt their body temperature. Their hands and feet will be cold and that doesnt mean they are cold. You're meant to feel babies chest and back, if they are warm to touch I wouldn't worry. If they seem cool to touch take your babies temperature just to double check.

Babies are super noisy sleepers, I think my LO was almost 3 months old before she stopped loudly grunting and squeaking in her sleep, sometimes she still lets out a little cry then suddenly goes straight back to sleep. Their sleep cycles are a lot lighter than ours! 
Fans are great but make sure they're not directly on baby, and check baby's tummy or the back of their neck to see if they're too cold or too hot. Don't use their hands and feet as an indicator of temperature as they'll usually feel cold due to baby's immature circulation. 
Also if you search for them, on Google Images there are some great charts that show how to dress baby for the temperature in the room. GroEgg is a great room thermometer if you don't have one. ☺️

Check his hands / feet. If they’re even the slightest bit cold, he’s cold. That’s how I’m able to tell with my 18 day old. A nice tight swaddle then eases her.

I sleep with an AC on so it’s pretty cool in our room. I just make sure she is out of the direct flow of air, she has pajamas on and a swaddle sleep sack and she sleeps really good for the most part. 
The way I judge it is if I’m too cold she’s definitely too cold.

I have a fan on and I point it away from the bassinet and I was told to dress baby same amount of clothes as me....so he sleeps in a Onesie and swaddle sack with mittens on and luckily no issues

I agree with everyone. You can have the fan but make sure it isn’t blowing directly on the baby. I would make sure you had a humidifier going too because fans can make the air dry and you don’t want to dry out baby’s sensitive nasal passages.
When I check to see if my baby is hot or cold I stick two fingers down the top of her shirt to her chest. If it is hot, I loosen a layer. If it is normal to me, I add a blanket. She needs to be a little warm to the touch.
