C-section due to baby being too big for my pelvis

Lisamarie

So I’ve been reading a lot of different posts on this topic and I know there are a lot of different feelings/opinions on this so I wanted to share my story.

I am 4ft 9in tall, at 36 weeks my doctor measured my belly and said I was measuring large, so they did a sonogram that same day. The baby was measuring around 6lbs give or take 2lbs. The doctor gave me the option to choose to try vaginally or schedule a c-section, he said due to my size and even having an average size baby, it may be difficult for me to deliver, but he left the choice up to me, then at 37 weeks I see a different doctor who tells me the complete opposite, saying vaginal deliveries are much safer and a c-section is major surgery. (Mind you this is after I made my decision to have the c-section and was prepared to let them know my decision). At this point, I tell him I still want to schedule the c-section but now I’m doubting myself. So we schedule the c-section for August 21st. Then today at my 38 week appointment, I see a different doctor, who asks why am I getting a c-section, (you think they would all communicate with each other or read my chart before seeing me) I explain why and then she asks if I still want to be checked to see if I’m dilated at all, I say yes and turns out I was not dilated at all and the baby isn’t even in my pelvis at all. The doctor said at 38 weeks she should feel the head and the baby should be in position but she is not (she is head down but not dropped into the pelvis) and she said my choice to have a c-section was best, because if she isn’t in position yet and she is just getting bigger then I might not go into labor on my own and waiting would make vaginal deliver even more difficult. So with all that being said I finally feel great about my choice to have a c-section. I was having a lot of doubts and mixed opinions even from the doctors! So I believe that being too small to deliver vaginally can be a very real thing for some women, and everyone is different of course and everyone’s stories/experiences are different so to each their own.
