Can someone explain this

So i want to start taking the pill and i’m going to visit my boyfriend soon and i wanted to surprise him, anyway everywhere i read they say that the pill starts working like 5 or 7 days later but when i went to the doctor and the pharmacist they say you have to wait 1 month for any hormonal method to start working🧐 im going away like in two weeks, should i get it or not?
