First postpartum period

At 6 weeks postpartum I started the birth control patch. I had not yet had my first period postpartum. At 12 weeks postpartum I began spotting/very light bleeding that I took as my first “period” postpartum. That lasted for a full week and then it started becoming heavier and brighter red. Is this normal for a first period postpartum or could it be because of starting the birth control patch or just my body trying to get back regulated? I’m just tired of bleeding.
