I was admitted to highland district hospital on Thursday because of my preeclampsia. My water naturally broke on Friday at 36 weeks and 2 days. We decided to be transfer to Miami Valley Hospital as a family just in case Brantley would need the nicu, trying to avoid separation. Unfortunately, that meant our doctor could not go with us. So with that being said, we had to see about a million different doctors due to shift change. We soon found out that this hospital was a learning hospital having so many different doctors made our experience so much more difficult. Some of the doctors looked like they were 12 years old it was very uncomfortable. We could not build any trust with any doctors. I asked for an epidural it worked at first then halfway through labor it messed up. I was basically experiencing natural labor, on top of having preeclampsia. The nurses got a second dose of an epidural before they realized it wasn’t working at all. I went from being 4cm to 9cm within seconds. I was in so much pain. I was wheeled into the OR dilated 9cm they wheel me right back out saying my cervix was still to thick on my right side. I had horrible back labor, my husband and nurse had to rub my back. Luckily, after having been in so much pain I got offered to have the epidural replaced it finally worked. Even though I was refused for delivery the first time I felt like we were blessed. We had gotten another shot to mature Brantley’s lungs. There was one doctor Dr. Handcocks, I got a good vibe from and when we were wheeled back the second time he was the doctor delivering me. I was so relieved. Our labor was 36 hours and I pushed for 4 hours. I was on so much magnesium I couldn’t even function. I was falling asleep in between contractions. My husband was told that I have a tilted uterus and Brantley’s head was stuck that’s were all the back labor came from. Brantley had to be suctioned out of me. The worse part about the whole labor was the magnesium I was almost poisoned by it. The nurse told me dangerous levels were an 8.4 I was at an 8. The nurse bagged the doctor to take me off of the magnesium but they were hesitant. I couldn’t even stand up on my own, I didn’t even have reflexes. Once they weened off of the magnesium my bp spiked again and they almost called a code blue and kept taking about putting me back on the magnesium. I begged them not to. My husband almost signed us out against doctors orders. With all that went on, we were still lucky to be at that hospital because Brantley had jaundice and we were able to stay in parenting rooms until he was discharged. I really wouldn’t  change anything. He received two shots to mature his lungs. We ended up with a good doctor at time of delivery. We were able to stay in the hospital until Brantley was better. We have a handsome little boy that was worth all the pain I went through.
