Is William, “Will” too common?

My husband is a Will, and so is his father. It’s a big family name. We didn’t use it for our son, but I really just adore the name. My husband didn’t like being a “jr,” and he didn’t want that for our son either, or I would have considered it. I don’t think I know any little Williams right now.

Our son’s name is William and we call him Will. It’s pretty popular (although we don’t know any William’s that aren’t adults), but we love it so used it anyway

I named my son William assuming he would always be one of several in his class and whatever. It is a family name in my husband's family and it meant so much to my husband so we used it even though it's really common. Weirdly we have yet to have a situation where he is in a Sunday school class or play group or whatever with another William. So like someone else said it isn't as common as you would think except for maybe certain areas in the country or something?
I like that it's a classic name that will never go out of style. Probably. It is highly unlikely to ever be one of those "old people names."

My husband's name is William & I only know 1 other person  with that name. & He's older, like 50's. People nowadays are so obsessed with "unique" names that all the "classic" ones get overlooked.

I named my little boy William. He was going to be Michael like the saint but we have 5 Michaels - Mick(ey), Mike,Michael, Mica and Big Mike. 
But in the end he was named after my Grandfather William(Bill(WildBill). Only Greatgrandpas and Myself call him Bill. He was my Grandfathers little Bill.
But on the whole he is called William. 
I had cousins and aunts get snotty with me about the name. I have an Uncle Bill and a cousin Billy. 
The thing is, it was not up to them what I named my baby. 
William is a good strong name that is not easily miss pronounced/miss spelled. Meaning protector, defender.

I’m naming my son William after his fathers middle name. To me it’s not super common. To me the most common name ever is Christopher. My husband first name is Christopher, my cousin, my dad, my BIL and my ex boss. Lol
