My husband missed the birth
We welcomed our daughter on August 7th, when she decided she wanted to join us, she came into this world quickly!
August 7th at 4am my water broke, my husband & I got things ready & showered, then headed to the hospital. I was put on pitocin since I wasn’t progressing past 3cm. 4 hours after the pitocin I decided to get my epidural & a few hours later I had only progressed to a 5, 70% effaced & at a -2 station. Baby girls heart rate kept dropping so they put a catheter in my uterus that fed water back to her to see if that would help her. At the time of the uterine catheter being placed, I was checked again around 4:30pm & I had only progressed to now 80% effacement, everything else stayed the same. Her heart rate continued to dip & my doctor was over to come in & discuss what our next step was going to be. At 5:20pm my husband went down the hallway to get a sandwich, as he walked out the door I asked my mom for my sick bag & as I puked (🥴) I felt pressure, thinking it was the uterine catheter coming out I asked my mom to get my nurse, my nurse was walking in at that same time & I then I got startled because I thought I felt something on my leg, my mom & I heard a gargle noise & my nurse ran over, threw back the blankets & at 5:22pm our daughter was right there, laying on the bed. She pulled the emergency cord & nurses came flying in, my husband cautiously walked in with them flying around him, we all were shocked at how quickly I progressed. My doctor came in just a few minutes later & was surprised to see a baby on my chest. My husband might’ve missed her being born, not by much, but he still got to cut the cord! Nurses all evening long came in to see the baby that “birthed herself”.
Brylee Kate was born 5 days early, 6lbs 14oz & 19.25in long. She is absolutely perfect, we are completely smitten with her.
