Should I be scared of IVF?

I have an ivf consult this week I’m feeling really anxious and unsure about moving forward with ivf but am 40 years old and have been ttc #2 for 13 months post MC. 4 rounds of clomid, 2 rounds of femara 1 IUI.  Why do I feel so scared? Should I be?

I’m just starting the process. I’m only on birth control portion and will start stims in a week and a half. But honestly - I was scared. Then when I sat down in my consult - that fear disappeared and motivation started. I was scared before my consult thinking of all the shots and risks and everything. The instant I sat in the chair for consult - I never felt so confident. They told me the times I’ll be doing shots (my husband will be working at those times) and I said no worries - I can do them myself. They said I’d need to repeat my hysteroscopy before transfer. - a procedure that before had me throwing up on side of table from a bad reaction - I said all good, I can handle anything. 
It is bizarre. This confidence just took over me and I am ready for it all. Knowing this is the first fertility treatment we are doing with high odds made my nervousness disappear and I am so ready. I know it won’t be easy but nothing in life that’s worth it is ever easy. Good things take time and work and a positive mindset.

Honestly, I was so nervous before I talked to my doc and nurse.  Turns out, I felt the best physically while going through ivf.  It's a long process, and the constant waiting is the hardest part of it all.  The meds were a breeze, retrieval wasn't bad, and FET was so easy.  Currently 8 weeks from my first round of IVF.  It's totally worth it.  Good luck!

I was scared and I nearly died from severe OHSS. It’s not a small decision to make. You’ll hear a lot of people who had good experiences but don’t discount the risks. I couldn’t walk for about a month because of the severe ovary pain and I couldn’t wear normal clothes for 8 weeks. My hormones are still fucked up 10 weeks post egg retrieval. So...seriously think about whether you’re ready to risk that before signing up. Probably it won’t happen but it absolutely can.

I was worried before starting but once I got going I felt my treatment went very well, no pain on egg retrieval and now currently pregnant. So I would recommend it and do it again if I had to. Good luck!

Not gonna lie but I was shitting myself beforehand but I've actually found this process quite empowering! I'm stronger than I realised, I've came through most of it with transfer still to do but no matter the outcome I'm glad I've done it and if need be I damn ready for round two!! Do yourself a favour and get the ball rolling as time is precious for us girls I've learned IVF GOT THIS! UV GOT THIS!!

I just started stims for my first round. I think the finality is scary-I’ve come all this way and tried everything and now this is the last thing to try. I’m so scared it won’t work but I’m constantly thinking positive thoughts. I just held my friend’s baby she had through Ivf and it’ll be so worth it in the end!

It is not easy. They'll be somethings that you have control over and some you do not. You'll probably go through a lot of different emotions sometimes feeling positive and hopeful and sometimes feeling scared and nervous. You could experience some disappointment.  This process gives you a lot of time and waiting to experience all your feelings and that is the hardest. Despite the bad parts, it gives you the best odds. My advice would be to keep moving forward and reminding yourself how strong you are because it is worth taking a shot.
