Weight gain but small baby.. how?

So I went to the nutritionist today and she told me I gained 5 pounds over what I was supposed to but the midwife told me the baby is still small how is that possible
I still have 10 weeks to go and she told me not to gain any more weight ...I looked at her like that's not possible!!! 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I have a friend that has her degree in child development and shares posts constantly (she’s pregnant right now) and last nights was about how certain foods add weight but no nutrients such as cookies and chips and ice cream etc.... so you have to put aside cravings for what’s best for baby and go for super foods you can handle. Broccoli and all the goods for you...

Your weight doesn't correlate with baby's weight. You can gain 60 pounds and have a 4 lb baby or gain 16 lbs and have an 8 lb baby. Baby's size is determined by genetics and nutrition. Your weight gain is literally approx 20 pounds of extra blood, fluid, placenta, etc and the rest is purely more calories in then out.

More weight gain is normal for a smaller girl. I gained at least 45 lbs with my first and he was 7lbs 15oz when born. I remember my midwife saying you gain like a pound a week towards the end? Just try and eat healthy but I wouldn't beat myself up over it if I were you. Good luck!!

I gained 41 pounds my first pregnancy and my baby was only 6lbs 7oz at birth. My second I gained 18 pounds and he was 7lbs 11oz at birth. I honestly dont know how much I've gained this pregnancy as I'm going to a birthing center and they dont really pay attention to weight gain unless you or baby seem unhealthy. Honestly some people just gain more than others and every pregnancy is different.

The estimates of the baby’s size are estimates. They can literally be off by a pound or two in either direction. At 32 weeks my baby was allegedly measuring enormous to the point where my doctor wanted to induce me early at 39 weeks. I told him I wanted to at least wait until 1 day after my due date. My baby was born 7lbs13oz on his due date without an induction. 
The baby size estimates are not accurate at all.

I hated when my doctor told me to slow the weight gain... like woman I literally haven't changed my diet since I got pregnant, I don't know why this is happening 🤦 I ended up gaining 20kg total (44lbs) which is definitely more than recommended but it is what it is. There's a higher risk to baby if you don't gain enough weight than gaining too much so try not to beat yourself up about it.
