How do i handle the situation

So I recently became friends with benefits with with a long time friend. We have been hooking up for a couple months now and he recently told me he has feelings for me and wants to see where it goes. But he also has a kid(2 years old) and just stopped messing around with the mom right before me and on top of that there’s already been a little drama about me being in the picture. They haven’t been in a relationship but i guess feelings are still there on her part. We’ve been involved for a while now and he says he wants a relationship and that he really likes me but at the same time i feel like she might be in the way. I’ve never been with a man with a kid so i don’t know how to handle the situation. I figured it would blow over and it has to an extent but now it’s just in the back of my mind. I know they coparent so obviously they have to communicate but I just can’t weigh the pros and cons. Is an attached baby mama a red flag?? How do I move forward in the relationship I don’t want to be at odds with her
