Anime streaming

Okay so I used to use this website to watch anime called kissanime and now I've learned that most websites to view anime are illegal and now I'm panicking that I could get into trouble even though that's how I've been watching anime for years.

Some people are telling me that the websites are illegal so the website has its creators will get into trouble not me but I'm not sure.

Can anyone tell me?

I've stopped watching them online (apart from YouTube) now
