Question about iud, did you guys need to have an authorization for it ?

So I've been wanting to get my iud removed because I want to try for another baby . I called today to make an appointment and they told me first I had to do a pap smear which I haven't done for about 3 years or so. Also they said that after the pap smear I would have to wait another 2 weeks because they need to get an authorization for it. I'm really confused about that part, authorization for what ? And why ?
Shouldn't the only authorization I need is mine ? 
Did anyone get told this as well ?
And is it mandatory to get a pap smear before the removal ?
I'm not trying to avoid it I'm just curious.

I didn’t have to do any of that either time I’ve had mine removed.... I simply called and said I needed an appointment for an iud removal and that was it.

If you are getting it taken out before the time that it’s scheduled to come out then insurance needs to say if they will cover it or not. But the Pap smear doesn’t make any sense to me and I’ve never heard of anyone being told that before

If you haven't had a PAP in 3 years I can see doing one. I just called and set an appointment to have mine removed. They wouldn't do it as a walk in thing so in the meantime they might have talked to insurance about it.
