What do they do while in labor

Question

I can’t go long periods of time without eating. I know in labor you can’t eat.. if I don’t eat I will get really sick and weak how will I push a baby out feeling that way?

Your mind will be so consumed with excitement and fear that food will probably be knocked down in rank of importance. I’m sure if it gets severe you can do ice chips or gum- something to keep your mouth busy and trick your brain into thinking you’re consuming something.

I’d confirm your doctor’s/hospital’s policy. I ate during labor at the hospital with my first and my birth center for this ho around also allows eating and drinking during labor.

It depends on hospital and doctor I think. I was allowed to eat but it was all liquids like broth and jello. Almost like flavored water.

My hospital allowed me to eat throughout, I believe until I was ready to go into the delivery room at about 7 or 8 cm.

Also about 20ish hours into it, I was daring enough to eat jello but that’s about it, even then I was scared of puking it out. But they will offer you some solutions if you really want to eat, whether it’s ice chips or jello.

Trust me you won’t feel that way in labor. Especially if you don’t get an epidural. You’ll be focused on getting that baby out and relief from the pain and pressure. Also, if you’re like me, you’ll vomit and have diarrhea the entire first half of labor (body prepping itself), and will not stand the sight of food.
