Persistent Jaundice
Anyone else ever dealt with this? Our little dude has been to the doctor 10+ times in the last 25 days. We were sent to the ER two days ago to rule out pyloric stenosis after some pretty intense vomiting, and thankfully that was negative, however we wound up staying for the jaundice. We were told he needed to be admitted for treatment, and then 2 hours later, after waiting for a bed, we were sent home to follow up with peds GI. His levels have been hovering in the 18s for the last two weeks. I know breast milk jaundice can cause a high bili and usually goes away after a couple of months, but his jaundice started at day 1, and has only gone up. Which is not characteristic of breast milk jaundice. At this point we are just frustrated. He’s almost been admitted 3 times, and each time they tell us just to follow up in a couple of days. It’s exhausting to take a newborn to the doctor every other day for blood work. Has anyone else ever dealt with this prolonged jaundice? He is feeding great, and has plenty of dirty and wet diapers (10 or so of each a day).
