Does anyone else have a particularly difficult mother in law? If so does your partner side with them or agree with you?

Depends on what it is and how I react. But I’ve made it clear that I am his wife and when our baby comes he needs to be on my side of things- for example, his mom smokes and I will be insisting she change and shower before holding baby. I just know she’s going to try to get around that if I’m not there and I’ve told him he has to enforce it. He’s agreed.

Sometimes. We are currently at odds at the moment. 
But DH and I have talked about many situations and have very much established that I am his wife hence #1.

And if family wants to be active participants in our lives they know that they must respect that, our marriage and our household. And the respect goes both ways.
