Have any of you started your LO on rice cereal in there bottles yet?

I was told by the pediatrician that it is not a good idea because you may throw the “I’m full” instinct off kilter and babies have been known to aspirate cereal when cereal is mixed in a bottle with formula or breast milk.  Babies who are younger than 4-6 months old don’t know how to properly swallow anything other than breast milk or formula and end up gulping or “inhaling” a bottle with cereal

We are mainly due to her formula (elemental) too thin, and she was struggling with reflux. But only 1/2 teaspoon per 2 ounces. I feel this is minimal and as she aclimates to this new formula I will back off. If not we are looking at previcid which is $55 per month plus $40+ per small can of formula.

I have done it with 3/4 of my children and they were all fine. Many people will be naysayers but do what makes you comfortable. I put just enough in to thicken the breast milk up and my baby would sleep an extra 2-3 hours and not wake up screaming when it was time for the first am feeding, day around 5-6am. Which meant we got at least 6 hours of sleep. Do what works for YOU & YOUR baby

My son saw a different pediatrician in the same office as his usual dr for his 2 month appt, she said to combat him spitting up to try the cereal in his bottles. She said a tablespoon. I knew what she meant and I'm sure she said that by mistake but she better watch it lol if I was a FTM I might've actually put in a full ass tbsp lol

my daughter was spitting up a lot, but still acted hungry after eating. so her pediatrician said to put 1-2 teaspoons of rice cereal in 3 ounces of breastmilk and give that to her. it made it way too thick and she wouldn’t finish her bottles. so I put 1/4 of a teaspoon in the 3 ounces, but only a few times a day. in the morning when she first wakes up and before she goes to bed for sure, it helped her sleep longer at night as well.
