Reflux or milk allergy?

Hey mamas! So I have suspected my little one has a milk protein allergy, but the pediatrician (been 3x) does not think that’s it. They are saying it’s reflux, and started him on ranitidine. However, this isn’t working either. He has green, mucousy stools (he’s breastfed solely), eczema on his face, has been spitting up copious amounts EVERY time I feed him. My gut is telling me it’s milk protein allergy, but I also feel rude questioning a pediatrician who literally went to school to take care of my babe. Anyways, if your little one struggled with this, what symptoms did your little one have? Did you just do a trial of no dairy to see if symptoms improved? And looking for dairy free meal ideas!! Thank you!!!! 💙💙

My little one has this also.  He was very gassy and just uncomfortable after he ate. He also had green stools with mucus and visible blood in his stool. I know someone said this but you can have them test for occult blood and see if there is any. I’ve been off dairy for a month now and he is completely back to normal. You can always just try to cut out dairy and see if it helps. When I went to my ped all they said was to cut out dairy to see if he gets better. It does take a while to see an improvement in the stool but after a week off dairy he wasn’t fussy or uncomfortable after he ate and he wasn’t as gassy.

My baby girl has a severe milk allergy. She has been formula fed since birth because I have a health issue. At first it started with unusual amounts of spit up and small amounts of blood in her stool. I felt like something was wrong,so I took her to the pediatrician twice the first time he changed her to a formula called Nutramigen. A week later she had more blood in her stool and the pediatrician said it was from diaper rash. I had a gut feeling it was not diaper rash. I am OCD about diaper changing. She continued to get worse, I tried the pediatrician twice and felt the need to get another opinion. We ended up taking her to the ER because of large amounts of bloody diarrhea. A gastroenterologist saw her at the hospital and diagnosed her with the allergy. She was put on a formula called Elecare and has been thriving ever since. If your gut is telling you something is wrong keep reaching out for help. My poor baby suffered unnecessarily because I didn’t push hard enough the first time.

My kids have slight lactose problems. I can’t drink milk, or eat much with “cream”. They’re all high lactose foods. They can handle butter and cheese so I’m ok with that. They really only got gassy  though. 
As for the spit up, my first had it really bad. And he just had to grow out of it. Once he started sitting up it went away

If so join the dairy-free breastfeeding group!...I did the dairy free diet because I was at a loss of how to help my LO because she always seemed like she was in pain when trying to pass gas or poop since the beginning and she did have weird poops here and there as well as bad baby acne...I'm almost a month in from dairy-free diet (which means in close to us being fully detoxed) and it has seemed to help! Still not sure if it was really the culprit but it was worth a shot to try cuz she seems so much happier now! So moral of the story if u feel like that is the problem and u tried everything the doctor suggested and the problem still isnt solved it doesnt hurt to try the diet out! That fb group will help u tremendously with starting off!!!

Ask them to do an occult blood test on your little ones stool. If it comes back positive it is likely a lactose sensitivity. Doctors work for you not the other way around. You know your baby and if you feel like nothing is changing and things are getting swept under the rug that’s when you get a new ped :)

You can ask your ped. If you can go on a dairy-free diet while your LO is taking the medication.Even if your LO does not have a milk protein allergy and you go dairy free (assuming that's safe to do while breastfeeding your LO who is taking the medication) , worst case scenario is you had to change your diet. My LO is a bit sensitive to dairy (he was mainly gassy, spitting up a bit etc.) And his ped. Said if it seems to work, just to continue limiting my dairy. It took around 2 - 3 weeks though to see good improvement. I love to eat a salad mixed with kale, romaine etc. With strawberries, nuts, and avacado! It feels like a panera salad without the high cost 😂 good luck and I hope your LO feels better soon!

It sounds like reflux. My baby has had it since birth. The medicine your baby is taking is what mine takes and she's on enfamil AR formula. It's helped tremendously. If you're breastfeeding though you can try to thicken the milk with pediatricians approval. It helps weigh the food down in their belly
