Scheduled csection???

Question

Just had my first appointment with my new ob. She told me the practice only allows scheduled csections for twins. I have a 2 year old who I had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery with so I was hoping to at least try to have them vaginally (I’m okay with a csection if necessary) is this standard practice for twins? Or should I look for another ob?

I would get a second opinion. My OB wanted me to do vaginally unless there was a reason not to. Well, both babes were breech so I did need a c section. But she didn’t decide that until 30ish weeks when she figured they were not going to change positions.

I'd atleast get a second opinion.  I have to have a c-section due to one previously.  But having one just because its twins sounds odd to me.

No way! I had two normal vaginal deliveries then a csection with my son then got pregnant with mo/di twins(identical) and my MFM and OBGYN both wanted me to go vaginally. And guess what I did have both vaginally 9 minutes apart. Get a second opinion and a new doc if they won’t let you try.

I’m an OB nurse. It is not standard of practice to have a c/s just because someone has twins, but a practice does have the right to make their own rules. This rule, I bet, would be for legal reasons. If you want a vaginal delivery, which is still not guaranteed, I’d find a new practice!

I go through kaiser in Ca. The hospital that was closest to me only did c-sections for twins, but the one 40 minutes away from me did both vagina and c-sections since they were a level 3 hospital with more doctors and nurses on at the same time to be in the room. I would just look around and see if there’s somewhere else you can deliver. I also didn’t have my ob deliver my sons, it was whoever was on call which I was fine with.

I had a vaginal delivery with my twins.  My OB would only do a c section of the babies were breech or there were complications during delivery.  I would suggest you get a second opinion.

My OB said c sections are incredibly common for twins and there would have to be a lot of things that happen perfectly to attempt vaginal but not c section outright. I’d question her more or find another one.

I think it is extreamly normal to highly suggest a csection for twins but I also think the OB should take your wishes into account.

My OB said we’ll only do a C-Section if we need to. (Depending On how babies are positioned)
