Why do people say dumb shit

Why do people feel the need to tell pregnant women about their friends who have stillbirths or went into early labor? My secretary just came in to tell me about her friends daughter went into labor at 25w2d. And yes, it’s absolutely horrible and my heart breaks for her and I want to cry thinking about it, but why tell that to someone who is around the same weeks? I just don’t get it
