Normal?

I recently had to switch my ob dr due to a change in insurance. My first appointment with the new ob was yesterday and she wanted to do a pap smear being that I was a new patient and all. Well I noticed blood on the cotton swabs and the tools she used. She did say spotting was normal because she irritated my cervix. I didn't spot at all yesterday but today I have brown spotting when I wipe. Is it normal to spot the day after? Shouldn't I have had some spotting yesterday?
