FTM, trying to buy baby stuff.

My MIL has an old wicker bassinet from when her children were little and I am tempted to try it out. But according to the new baby safety guidelines to prevent SID they say not to use second hand beds- especially ones that are 30 years old or more.... which this bassinet is.

I was worried about the scratchy wicker but my MIL had it padded, which is a big no-no these days.

I’m just confused by these new guidelines... I mean, our mothers raised all of us and we’re all alive and well... maybe a little odd at times but otherwise whole 😂

Asking for advice from experienced moms. Should I buy a new fabric/mesh bassinet or try to make this old one work?
