How much weight has your baby been gaining? (EBF)

Just came back from the doctor and she said that she'd like to have seen more weight gained in the 2 weeks since our last visit. My boy weighed 8lbs 13 oz at birth. And was down to 8 lbs 3oz when we left the hospital. He was back to birth weight at day 7(one week) and was 9 lbs 3oz at day 10. Today he is 10 lbs 13.9oz. So he has gained 1 lb 10.9oz (26.9 oz) in 14 days. That's nearly 2 pounds in 2 weeks. I'm confused as so how much weight she thought he should have gained. She has an accent and is difficult for me to understand. But I think she said that he has only gained 56 grams a day and if my math is correct that's 2oz a day. I thought it was average for babies to only gain 5-7 oz a week. So how much you guys babies gaining a week? Btw my son is 3 weeks 3 days old and is exclusively breastfed.

My son was born at 37 weeks,  weighed 6pounds 7 oz he weighed 6 pounds 2 oz at discharge. At 1 month check,  he was 10 pounds 5 oz, at 2 months check he was 13pounds 4 oz.

My daughter was 6.10 when born and on Tuesday (2 week check) she was 6.5. She isn’t gaining much fast but she’s pooping (she’s pooping now as I breastfeed😭😩🤧) and peeing so I know she’s eating. Hopefully she gain more within the next few days

That’s so strange! Mine is also EBF- born at 7 lb 5 oz and at his 2 week checkup he was 8 lb 2 oz and my pediatrician was very very happy with that. She said just getting back to birthweight would have been enough (he was 6 lbs 13 oz when we left the hospital). Maybe get a second opinion? I think most doctors would probably say you two are doing phenomenally.

That sounds about right. My son was 8 lbs 4 oz at birth, dropped to 8 lbs even at 72 hours old. By 2 weeks he was 9 lbs 2.5 oz, and now at a month old he’s 11 lbs 8 oz. and his pediatrician says that’s actually more than most babies at this stage.

My daughter was born weighing 8lbs 12oz was back to birth weight in 2 weeks and we just had her 1 month appointment yesterday and she weighs 10lbs 1 oz. Her pediatrician was very happy with her weight gain and said she was right on track. Considering your little one gained much more I would assume he's doing great

Your baby's weight gain seems perfect to me? My little guy was born at 7lb 13oz, dropped to 7lb 5oz, regained birth weight by day 10, and is now 3.5 weeks and is somewhere around the 9.5lb range. We will have his 1 month check-up next week to know exactly what he weighs. I always thought the goal was gaining 1-2lbs in the first month, so your baby seems right on track to me.

My pedi said my son should be gaining an ounce a day at this age. Your son’s weight gain seems normal.
