Percentiles?

I had an anatomy scan at 19 weeks and a follow up growth scan at 22 weeks. OB said she was measuring in the 47th percentile. He said that was perfect so I have no reason to believe that anything is wrong. However, I don’t really get the concept of percentiles. Can someone better explain to me what this means?

It's about how many children would be smaller than your child. 
For example, if you're in the 99th percentile, only 1% of children will be bigger (Your child would be large). If you're in the 5th percentile only 5% would be smaller than your baby (Your child would be small)
If your child is on or around 50% they're average.

Answer

50th percentile is exactly average. 100th percentile being the largest. Dramatic changes such as being 50th and dropping to 10th is an indication that baby isn’t growing like it should. You shouldn’t be worried... at all!
