Breastfeeding after C-Section

Hi All,

FTM here. We welcomed our perfect baby boy, Stefan, via planned c section Monday (6 days pp today). I’m having some difficulties feeding and am looking for some hope/encouragement from others who may have felt the same.

To start, we are having trouble latching. My nipples are flat, so he will start sucking a few times and ends up just suckling until he gets bored and then will not open his mouth again.

I also struggled with getting my colostrum in. It finally came in a little bit (half a teaspoon) Thursday morning. I have been pumping every three hours and supplementing the difference with formula. I’m usually only getting about 20-25 mL per pump (combined both breasts). On Friday I had a bit more and slowly over yesterday it became less. My breasts had also been quite large, hard and sore on Friday night, but have since gone back to being soft.

I’m worried that now that I’m getting close to a week pp that maybe I won’t get milk in? I saw the lactation consultant Thursday and she said she expected my milk to be in within 24-48 hours. Now that I’m beyond thus with what seems to be the opposite of where I should be headed, I’m getting a bit anxious and worried. I go back to see her tomorrow morning, but in the meantime I’m would like to hear some of your experiences.

I realize I may have trouble with him latching and maybe solely breastfeeding is not in the books for us. But I would at least like to be able to feed him my own milk rather than formula.

Thank you for any advice or encouragement you have ❤️
