Teething 8 month old

My soon to be 8 month old is cutting his first tooth. You can feel the top of the tooth poked through the gums. The last few days he has been fussier and running warm, as well as spitting up a bit and has 1 episode of diarrhea. Today we gave him Tylenol to help with the pain and called the on call doc and was given the okay to try Motrin as well. We put my son down for bed at 8 pm and he fell asleep, but we have been up every few hours with him in a 7 hour period because he wakes up crying almost in pain. I just gave him a dose of Motrin and he laid in his crib awake for a while until he fell asleep again. Is this all normal behavior of a teething baby? I feel so bad for him😭 we have a family trip planned for in the AM to go into the mountains to do Apple picking but I’m not sure if I should go with him feeling icky, he’d be in the car for almost 2 hours and I know he won’t sleep much while we are out because it’s something new.
