BBT Chart + OPK

Priscilla

When is the best time to inseminate when using both bbt charting & opk’s? I was told that once you get your dip on your bbt chart that you are ovulating but others tell me to wait until I get my full positive on an opk. Please help. I got my dip this morning and my test is almost positive but won’t be until I’m suspecting tomorrow.

A dip does not mean you are ovulating. A bbt chart cant predict ovulation, only confirm it. Test multiple times with the opk until you get your positive. Then inseminate. Especially if you're using a frozen vial bc it lasts a much shorter amt of time so you really want it to be as close to ovulation as possible. If you're using a known donor and are able to inseminate multiple times in the cycle, then today would be a good day to have covered in case it is your ovulation day.At this point, your temps can stay in this lower range a few days then spike ,OR it can spike back up tomorrow in which case this would be your ovulation day. Theres just no way to know until after it happens with bbt.

Yup. 12 to 48 hrs after the positive. Just make sure you test multiple times to not miss your surge. It is possible to get a positive opk today and have a temp spike tomorrow.

@susan yeah normally I would temp the whole cycle but my fertility doctor suggested I just use opk’s cause temping was causing me stress but I started temping again because I just felt like my ovulation was all over the place. But thank you so much for your advice and how long after a positive opk do you ovulate? I heard 12-48 hrs? But if I get that spike and a positive it can be that day?

Also, next time, start temping at CD 1.

If your temp spikes when you wake up, inseminate asap. The egg is still viable for an additional 24 hrs after ovulation so it can still work. They're getting lighter either because you missed your surge or lh went back down before ovulating. Tomorrows temp will be telling
