Donating Colostrum? NHS question

Ha

I’m currently 38+4 and have been expressing colostrum for about 2-3 weeks now and I’ve got quite the stash of syringes collected in my freezer.

I meant to check with my midwife today but totally forgot to ask the question about whether excess colostrum can be donated or not for premature or sick babies?

She gave me 6 x 1ml syringes as I told her I’m producing quite a bit (I get about 7-8ml per sitting so I original bought a pack of 5ml syringes to fill for my own babies use if needed when born and have filled all of those already).

I’ve already filled all 6 1mls I was given earlier tonight and I have more than I think I’ll need for my own little one in the freezer. I was going to ring the drs office tomorrow to see if I can get some more syringes as I find it makes my breasts feel a little less tender to express regardless but I’m wondering if NHS accept donated colostrum to justify the trip out to the drs to fetch more syringes?

I know there are milk banks etc and there’s a whole screening process for moms that produce a good amount of breast milk but because I haven’t actually had my baby yet I never expected to produce this much I don’t know how it works?. I’ve had a healthy textbook pregnancy, done all the screenings that they advise etc never had any illnesses etc.

Like I said I will ask the question tomorrow but curious if any NHS workers on here might know the answer for me 😊 obviously first and foremost I would like my baby to be well and healthy but she’s looking to be a good sized baby, full term and provided we can get a good latch I’m hoping we won’t even be needing what I’ve collected, but I’d be gutted to just have to throw it away knowing how beneficial it could be to SOMEONEs baby 😥
