Lactose intolerance

Is it possible to develop this later in life? I'm 19 and I've never had a problem with dairy until recently. It seems now when I eat ice cream or drink dairy in general I get really bad diarrhea and stomach cramps😕 I'm going to try and see my doctor soon but for right now I want to know if anyone else has gotten it in their adulthood.
