Should pacifiers be held off until baby learned to latch?

IF SO: how long should you wait until introducing a pacifier?

Obviously every baby is different but for my daughter it didn't make any difference. Introduced them immediately and had no issues with breastfeeding.

My son never wanted one, if it wasn't a nipple he spat it out like it was poisonous.

The lactation consultants at the hospital recommended them right away actually, so they get used to them and your nipple doesn’t become a pacifier.  Plus, it strengthens their jaw muscles so they become a more efficient nurser faster.

My daughter started using one at two weeks when we started to get the hang of breastfeeding and I needed a break from being a constant human pacifier.

The recommendation is 4 weeks but do whatever your comfortable with

With my first we used a pacifier since day 1 and we EBF til 13mo. He started rejecting the pacifier around 5mo and I gave up after that lol
With our second, again since birth and have had no problems breastfeeding. It's nice when she wants to comfort suck but gets mad that I'm still giving her milk. It's also nice to not be a pacifier 100% of the time 😂
All babies are different, it just depends!

My son took the pacifier before he latched to the boob 🤷🏻‍♀️ I tried for a week to get him to latch , no success. Gave him a paci the 2nd day of life and took it

My LC said they're not a problem themselves, the problem is when baby is using a pacifier but actually hungry--- since cluster feeding happens naturally, it's hard for parents to realize what used to be a soothing measure for fussing is now a soothing measure for hunger. She suggested using one only when able to tell the difference in cues

I will just chime in since most people didn't have any issues that my child actually DID. Introduced a pacifier at about 4 weeks and he wasn't super loving it anyways, but was having trouble nursing after that so we quit right away and haven't used a paci since. So it is possible to have issues with your child and a paci, but as others have mentioned, it really just depends on your child.

I’m sure others have mentioned it all depends on the baby but we gave a paci on day 2 and never had a latching issue
