Looking for advice as to when to have baby #2! Baby #1 has special needs.

Hi everyone!

I just had my son in August so this is still far away. He has Down syndrome, diagnosed at birth. I’m 23 and married.

Basically, the other parents and specialists I’ve talked to have suggested a second child within 3 years, as it’s been shown that they will achieve their milestones faster that way. For example, even if they’re 2 years apart, they may still start walking, talking, potty training at the same time.

We want a second child regardless, but I kind of want one closer to 2 years apart rather than 3. My husband is open to whatever, as long as our son is doing well and we’re stable and happy.

I know it’s a HUGE transition from one child to two, but I was looking for opinions and advice from other moms and their experiences. My son needs a lot of extra support right now, but I feel like a sibling will help him a lot for many reasons.
