Toddler not talking?

For those with toddlers I have a question.
My almost 2 year old refuses to talk. I know she knows what words mean. She follows instructions and can point at things but refuses to use her words. She used to say words like nana for banana and Sissy and mama/dada but now she doesn't try to say those anymore. Have your toddlers done this? How can I encourage her to use her words again?

My son was speech delayed. We had a speech therapist come to our house once a week. She told me to talk to him or to myself all the time. Also, to not give him anything that he pointed to/wanted unless he attempted to ask for it. It was hard because I was so focused on trying to make him self sufficient but she wanted me to get him to ask to open the door instead of teaching him how to open

My baby sister did that. She didn’t talk until she was 3 because everyone talked for her, she really didn’t have a need for it. My mom and I could anticipate her wants and needs, and our other sister answered any questions for her. It probably wasn’t a coincidence she started talking when the other sister started preschool.

My two year old Is speech delayed. You could always contact your local early intervention program (google it for one near you) if you are concerned. They can do an evaluation to see if there’s anything they can do to help. It’s all free. 
And side note: if you wait until your kid is three to get them evaluated, it is harder to get services for them because then it goes through the school district and their standards for getting services are more strict. But if you start before that, your kid will just be grandfathered in at age three. So it’s best to get services early

You are describing a speech regression, and any regression should be mentioned to your pediatrician.

If you look up speech therapy activities for toddlers on Pinterest there are a ton of great tips and inexpensive activities and games you can do with your LO to encourage more speech. If you are concerned though you should speak to your child's doctor. Some kids are just late talkers and will learn very quickly when they are ready.

My son is almost 3 and doesn’t talk more then a 10-15 words... no sentences. But understands absolutely everything, it’s very interesting.... Dr isn’t concerned because he understands everything we tell him. She still referred him to early intervention but they told us he wasn’t ‘delayed enough’ 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️😂 (they required 50% delay in speech or 25% in 2 separate categories and he was at 46% speech but not higher then 10% in the others)
