What is the first OB appointment like?

I just found out I’m pregnant, estimating about 4.5-5weeks. I’m calling my primary dr tomorrow for a test, but I have never been to an OB before as my primary does Pap smears. What does that first appointment consist of?

Just to say if you have an ultrasound they will likely not be able to see anything or very little. Waiting another week could make a big difference in that respect.

8 weeks is when you have your first appointment (maybe sooner, depending on your health care) Blood tests, first ultrasound(transvaginal) and paperwork and loads of information.

General questions, pee in a cup, confirm pregnancy, maybe a Pap smear if you are due for one. 
You will know if you are getting an ultrasound or blood work as they typically schedule that as a separate appointment right before your doctors appointment. I didn’t do those things until my second appointment at 11 weeks

I was in the same situation and had only seen my primary physician for yearly physicals and pap smears. When I got pregnant I called to make an appointment with my sister’s OB. At her office they typically schedule a visit with a nurse at 8-10 weeks and go over paperwork, family history, what medications and foods are safe during which trimesters and discuss genetic testing options. Then they schedule an appointment with the OB anywhere from 10-13 weeks. I haven’t had that appointment yet but will discuss any questions I have and hear the heartbeat. I did already have a dating ultrasound because I had an early miscarriage at the beginning of August and didn’t have a period before getting pregnant again but typically I wouldn’t have had an ultrasound yet.

I just went and did soooooo much paperwork. They asked me about if my household was safe, family history, my history, talked about drugs and alcohol a lot. They gave me so many papers about what pregnancy is like and what to expect, what kind of medicine I can take. Healthy things to do or not do. Then went back about 2 weeks later (around 8 weeks) and had my first sonogram! It was transvaginal, you don’t have to agree to it.
