Pros and cons to one baby?

Question

I go back and forth on having one or two kids. Some days my heart wants two. Some days I think it’d be nice to have one and done.
I have a brother so I’m not sure what it’s like to be an only child. All the kids I grew up with who didn’t have a sibling had
 “only child syndrome” but I know that can’t be the case for all kids. My husband would be happy with either one or two he’s decided to leave it up to me lol.

Im an only child and didn't have 'only child syndrome' I was spoilt but I danced so literally every penny spent was on dancing. 
I absolutely hated being an onky child. It isn't physically possible to keep a child entertained constantly so no matter how many toys I had I always felt bored.
 My mum and dad split when I was 15 and I went through the whole thing on my own. I don't see my dad now and I haven't since.
In my opinion being an only child sucks! To the point that after I had my first I said if I couldn't physically have another I would adopt. And it was nothing my mum did, she did everything for me, I couldn't have asked for a better life. I just always wished I had someone else

Little bit different end of things, but I was recently talking to a friend who has lost both parents in the last few years who had some major health issues towards the end. I was saying how content we were (right now) with 1 & she said it’s so important to have at least 2 because taking care of an aging parent can be soo hard & dealing with the estate etc, no way she could have done it without her sister. Just an interesting perspective I wouldn’t have thought about

I was there too. My daughter is 7 months old. I love her sooo much. We are finally at the stage where she sleeps all night, and she is happy and her personality is shining through. I love it. I kind of considered just keeping it at one. Pregnancy, labor, and the newborn stage are all still very fresh in my mind. I worry about doing all of that WITH another small child. 
However, after going back and forth, the deciding factor for me was this: who will she have when we (her parents) are gone? She isn’t close to her cousins. I don’t want to leave my daughter to grieve alone and live her life without support from family. Yes she will have friends, but having a sibling is different. 
So here we are, scared crapless, planning for number two.

I am an only child and I loved it. I saw my step sister on the weekends, but I don't get along with the one. I hate my step sister so for me my experience with siblings though limited, I hated.

Whats only child syndrome? I was and my dad was telling me the other day how I always wanted a sibling growing up. I however do not remember that and remember liking being the only child for the most part. We made the decision to have 2 and have them close together so they can play together.  But when you're the only child you get all the attention, get to pick everything, normally more money for things, etc. At times all the attention got to be a lot but my mom also stayed at home so I think that factored into it.
