First Sonogram Scare!
Today I had my first sonogram scheduled. Today it decides to snow 6 inches 🙄. I couldn’t reschedule because we plan to tell our families about the pregnancy this weekend, and we wanted to be sure everything is good first. I wouldn’t have been able to get back in for at least 2 weeks if we didn’t go today.
I HATE being out in snow, and the sonogram place is about 25 miles away. My husband left work early to come and get me and drive me to the appointment. I still ended up in tears because I am just a nervous wreck in weather like this, especially when we are in a construction area with concrete barriers on each side and there are people ahead who keep hitting their brakes suddenly for no apparent reason.
We get to the sonogram place, and it’s closed! I literally confirmed a few hours ago that we were still coming. Luckily the lady doing the sonogram showed up about 10 minutes after we did!
We get in and she gets the machine going, I lay down, she puts the gel on and starts the scan. She is scanning and scanning...there’s nothing showing up. Inside I am crying! I am praying! My husband is squeezing my hand, and I know if I look at him I will absolutely lose it!
I question whether every test I have taken was wrong, whether the blood test was wrong, whether all this morning sickness has just been in my head, whether my growing tummy isn’t actually a baby.
She repositions the scanner several times, and finally she finds baby! Tears immediately start because I am so thankful! She points out the face and heart, and we see baby move! He/She is doing flips and putting his/her booty up to the scanner! The lady doing the scan had some trouble keeping baby on the screen and was having to go really low to find baby, so we only got 3 pictures, but we are so happy to have those pictures and to know baby is doing well!
(The lady doing our scan is currently training and is not yet a certified sonographer, so that may have been cause for some of the issues. We will do a more in depth sonogram by a certified sonographer a little further along in the pregnancy.)
