How long would you TTC before seriously considering adoption?

....or maybe it just depends on your situation. Thoughts?

Some info about adoption:

Of the over 400,000 children in foster care in the U.S., 114,556 cannot be returned to their families and are waiting to be adopted. Among these children, males outnumber females, African American children are disproportionately represented, and over half are 6 years old or older.

Although no more than 2% of Americans have actually adopted, more than 1/3 have considered it. One out of every 25 U.S. families with children have an adopted child. According to the U.S. Census, about half of these have both biological and adopted children.
