Bleeding gums, NOT dental
Just going out on a limb here to see if anyone has experienced anything similar.
Or any nurses that might have an idea?
Long read. Thanks!
I have always had issues with my gums swelling and bleeding when it's time to go to the dentist. I get a cleaning and it clears up.
This time it didn't. The swelling went down, but the bleeding did not.
I brushed more and flossed more for a month, but decided to go to back to the dentist when I was driving for 2 hours and my gums spontaneously started bleeding.
They gave me strange looks and sent me home with a prescription mouthwash. They said if it didn't clear up that I needed to go to the doctor because they were fairly certain my issues are not dental.
It didn't get better. I wake up some mornings with my teeth bloody. Taste blood throughout the day. Bleed when I bite into soft cheese. Some days I can't eat crunchy things because my jaws ache.
Went to the doctor and she asked about easy bruising and heavy periods, which I have. I don't have nosebleeds though.
I'm a lab tech, so I'd already done a blood smear and was already fairly sure I could rule out leukemia. All my testing came back normal. She did a CBC, CMP, A1c, and lipid panel.
Side win for my PCOS: my lipids and glucose were great, even though I wasn't fasting.
They said to go see my dentist and make sure I'm flossing 😕🙄🤦🏽♀️
I've done tons of research and just wondering if anyone else has had these problems, because I do have PCOS, but the only possible connection I can see is inflammation.
I should have health insurance next year, so if the issues haven't cleared up I'm probably going to see a hematologist.
Also considering going back to to doctor and asking for a coag panel. Just frustrating to get the run around and no answers.
