Obgyn requesting I pay delivery deductabke before giving birth ?

Question

So my doc office just informed me I have to pay for labor and delivery at 36 weeks . $4100 ( I have a $5000 deductible) Did your doc request that from you as well ?  Did you pay it or get away with holding it off ?
Update: I’m 30 weeks pregnant and finding out about this now. I wish they gave me a heads up when I first started seeing them .

Yeah my dr does this as well.
One of my pregnancies I was in a financial crisis and couldn't do it. I told them I can't because I won't be able to pay my mortgage  (true). They told me they'd just bill me the ob fee and let the hospital bill me for the rest (and then I set up a payment plan with the hospital for after the birth over 1 year). It took a bit of insistence though. My other 3 pregnancies yeah I had to pay up before the birth.

I paid my OB 2500. But it was spread out over months. I got a notice in the mail that the hospital requested me to pay 1700 two weeks before delivery but that was eventually waived because they expect me to hit deductible before then. So they won’t collect any money from me thankfully. 
I have a 5500 deductible as well

Yes I have to pay my bill for all prenatal care, delivery, and postpartum care that’s not covered by my insurance by a month before my due date.

My options were pay monthly and finish paying the month of my due date, or pay in full in the hospital. There was no monthly payment option after the baby was born. So I paid monthly and am now done which is nice!

I’m making payments to my dr on a monthly basis- but knowing my insurance will be changing in 2020. They will reconfigure once my insurance is confirmed and it’s possible that I’ll have overpaid. I’ll get a refund from the dr- but they wouldn’t let me wait until 2020 to start paying. 
Unfortunately, they need to make sure they won’t be on the hook for your charges. Not my favorite thing at all- especially since I work for an insurance company and this goes against all I’ve ever known 😊

Yes I have a 3k deductible so I started making payments to them last month. With my first I didn’t have to pay anything up front but my deductible was only 250$ then so I don’t think they were too worried about it.
