Housework. Who’s job is it?

“In many marriages, housework for women is assumed, whereas men believe that taking care of their home is optional. When they do something, they see it as helping out their wives and being a good husband, but don't regard it as their actual responsibility.”
Thoughts? What’s your situation at home. What is the norms?

In our household EVERYONE contributes. They don’t only pick up after themselves, but they also contribute. Be it with dishes, trash, or laundry duties. Be it with going grocery shopping or taking our daughter to school. Both my husband and I do what needs to be done. He doesn’t need me to nag at him, he just does it. He works 60 hour weeks and still finds time to help in many ways, including spending time with our daughter every single day, helping with feeding her, bathing her and tucking her in for the night( stories and all)
When I was ready to marry my now husband, I married him because of the man he is.. I could have married 100 others before him but I didn’t. I married him because he is clean, hard working and respectful. Because he’s kind and can often read my mind and is one step ahead of me with getting things done.
We both work full time paying jobs, take care of our daughter and maintain a household. 
A happy and healthy marriage, happens only when you have respect, hard work, dedication, commitment and love. It might not always be 50/50, it might be 60/40 this week because of Abc and next week it could be 40/60 because xyz happened, but it will ALWAYS balance itself out to where neither of us feels disrespected, forgotten, or taken for granted.
And I would not have it any other way

It really depends on the household. I work from home, and work less hours than my husband by at least two hours a day plus four on Saturdays, so I wouldn't imagine dumping housework on him too while it's so easy for me to run the vacuum while I'm on hold on the phone.
However saying that he does do the dishes and such.

I been married 20 years and we always shared cleaning duties and cooking duties. I honestly don’t understand how time seems to be moving backwards when it comes to family and marriage. Younger people seem to think they’re so progressive when it really seems like young couples are moving back to Leave It To Beaver times.

My husband works 40 hours a week, and goes to school and I am a stay at home wife until I have our daughter in December. When we both worked we split the household responsibilities. I wouldn’t ever think to leave anything for my husband to clean since he works so hard to provide.

I’m a stay at home mom and full time student. I wish a bitch would tell me house work is optional for him and it’s all for me. I would tel him “Boy get out of my face and go grab that broom” lol my fiancé knows better. Regardless of me being a woman or even a stay at home mom, that doesn’t make me a servant. Now what works for others is fine, but I’ll be dammed lol

In our house it’s not a specific person’s job. My job is less physically demanding than his so I tend to try to get things done so he doesn’t have to worry about anything, but he will do what he see that needs to be done. I cook most nights but he usually helps with prep and clean up. Some nights he takes over cooking (any excuse to use the grill 😂). So honestly I’d say we’re 50/50 except he’s a man so dusting or vacuuming are the last things he is thinking about so I usually handle that

We share duties as it should be. I grocery shop and cook, Therefore he does dishes.  I vacuum while he sweeps. We do our own laundry. I clean the kitchen and he mows the lawn. We are both adults and both work so why would one of us do more than the other?

I'm a SAHM so it's pretty much true for our household. I have 2 middle school aged kids that do a lot of chores too so I'm not doing all of the housework. My husband does 100% of the work outside the home. He also sometimes vacuums the floors without being asked, picks up after himself, and never lets me fold laundry alone when he's home. He bathes, dresses and brushes the hair/teeth for our baby every single night.  And all the yard work, and home repairs, etc. He does his duty, so I don't mind doing most of the housework at all. If I was working, it would be divided differently of course.

I wouldn’t even marry a guy if I noticed his apartment or house was dirty when we first started dating. That means that he obviously can’t take care of his own place and shouldn’t be trusted keeping the home you two have together neat. Luckily I’ve always had clean boyfriends. I’m usually the messier one but I still clean up my own messes.

In our house everyone helps. I am a stay at home mom who just started going to school 3 hours in the evening. My husband works from 5-5 outside ALL DAY no matter the weather (oilfield) He helps sweep, vacuum, mop, do laundry and PUT IT AWAY. He comes home makes sure our son is fed, shower and sometimes puts him to sleep. We take turns. Does yard work, etc. he won’t do dishes but I love doing those so I don’t mind 🤣Kinda sad that most men work inside and still don’t bother to help around. I even have my son help around as well. I’m 22 he’s 24. Glad I won’t have to deal with a lazy husband...
