Membrane sweep?

My doctor mentioned a membrane sweep may be offered at my 38 week appt (currently 37-1). I’m going back and forth about it because while I’m somewhat miserable and would love to get the ball rolling, I also feel I should wait a little longer to see if I progress on my own. Baby boy hasn’t dropped, cervix hasn’t dilated and I haven’t thinned at all either. Also I’m not having any contractions. 
Any thoughts/experiences?? TIA 💙

They can only sweep if you have started to dilate. I had one done at 37w3d and then my water broke at 38 weeks exactly.

They can only do a membrane sweep if you have started to dilate. I am 38+3 today and went to the dr. I was 3cm and she did a sweep. The main reason being that I am going for a vbac and my best chances are if labour starts by my due date. I can’t be given drugs to induce so this is the best there is. 
I didn’t find it painful a bit uncomfortable. My view was that if my body had already started to progress then I would agree but I said if I’m only .5-1cm then to not do it and check again next week.

All of what you’re experiencing is normal! You may not have contractions until you hit 39 weeks. Membrane sweeps can be very uncomfortable plus I wouldn’t want to possibly go into labor until at least 39 weeks (for baby’s lung development reasons). Make this last month as comfortable as possible, get massages, get some chiropractor work done, lots of ball bouncing to ease the pressure on your pelvic should help!

I’m not an expert but I don’t think they do it unless you’re already dilated my ob asked if I wanted one at 37 weeks I said yes she later declined because I was too sensitive but I’m getting one Halloween 39 weeks 5d ( I got a bad rash that’s why I wanna get it going)

You could always do it at 39 instead and see if you progress at all in the next two weeks? I have read that they don’t always work but also could send you into labor quickly.

It’s not a nice experience so if you can avoid it I would. It doesn’t always work and some people have it done a couple of times. I had one in my last pregnancy on my due date and co traction’s started that same day so it can be a positive thing if you’re wanting baby to come a bit earlier. Maybe ask if you can have it at 39/40 weeks instead if you’re worried about it being too early.
